Final Concentration Topic Commitment

In no more than four complete sentences, explain/describe the central idea of your concentration topic. In your concentration statement/description, address how you hope to address this central core of "meaning" in your art. You may choose to include your choice of materials or specific handling of the elements and principles of design in order to accomplish your objective. Remember that you are committing to this direction for the remainder of the year, and the statement you post will be the one displayed with your work at the end of year Honors Art show.

Post Due by Sunday, November 13th 8pm, 20 homework points

  1. The central idea of my concentration is personal insecurities that afflict humans in our modern society. Each piece of my artwork for this topic will represent an insecurity and express that idea or meaning through effective manipulation of the elements of design, or it will show different real-life situations that a specific insecurity is burdening someone, presenting the affected person's insecurity directly or symbolically. Since most of our lives are controlled by our insecurities to an extent, my goal is to create thought-provoking artwork that everyone including myself can relate to and connect with on a personal level, and to show how insecurity negatively effects us all, to hopefully prompt people to think about why they should be strong enough to face and overcome their insecurities in result. My concentration is not limited to using certain materials, because I want to leave myself open to a wide range of ways to adequately express my ideas and meanings, which I feel different materials can help conclusively illustrate better than others.

  2. The central idea of my concentration is motion. I will express motion through an object that moves such as a human, car, or animal. This motion that i portray in my art can also symbolically represent feelings or tell a story through the type or shape of the motion used. My concentration will not be necessarily constructed of any one certain material, but will most likely be paint weather its acrylic or water color.

  3. Our eyes focus naturally on what captures our attention in a photograph, drawing, and even everyday life. My concentration in Honors Art this year will bring out what I see is the central point of interest in each piece through a theme of 'Focus'. I hope to do this in a variety of ways. For example, blurring out the less important aspects of an image, only fully developing one section of a piece, or zooming in on an object. I would like to attract attention to the details that are sometimes overlooked by onlookers. This concentration is not limited to any specific materials, as I would like to create a range of pieces using different media and techniques throughout the year.

  4. My concentration for this year will be the idea of patters. In our daily life, there are many patterns. For the meaning of pattern, I am not focusing on shapes or lines, but more in life. There are patterns in natural things, like nature and architecture, and also in peoples actions and thoughts. I am looking to find some around myself (in either the natural or human settings) and relate each personally back to me. I would like to use the technique of printmaking, charcoal/pastel drawings, and also painting.

  5. The central idea of my concentration this year is memorable destinations. Many places that I have visited either for leisure/travel or for other reasons invoke memories, stories, and emotions that i shared with my family and friends. I would like to record this through realistic renderings with the use of gouache, mixed media, acrylics, and other media.

  6. For my Concentration this year I will be doing "Bad Habits." I know that i can include many different habits and will be able to think of many ideas for the remainder of the school year. I want to include the habits people in our society get themselves into, and express the different ideas through my artwork. I can relate them to myself and also to others around me, and make the viewer interested in the every day habits we don't think too much about though my work.

  7. My concentration is based on expectations and the varied outcomes if or if not you meet these "expectations". I want to portray this idea through creating similar art pieces but focusing on the slight changes among them. I can personally relate to the idea of having expectations on you and having to deal with the outcome when you can't satisfy these expectations. I want to portray the emotions that come with expectations through my artwork using various materials such as paint and charcoal.

  8. My concentration is based around color and the use of false color. I want to mainly use pastels in my concentration but in some cases paint will better portray what I want the outcome of the piece to be. I want my pieces to draw in attention because of their colors and how I use color to represent the different aspects of my art.

  9. My concentration for this year is going to be based upon the relationships between architecture and landscapes. I want to focus my concentration on these two topics, because they surround us all throughout our daily lives. I would like to capture how the landscape surrounding something such as a building or house, changes one's view of the structure for better or for worse. To complete my concentration I want to work with medias such as pencil, charcoal, pastels, and digital media. I would like to almost completely omit the use of painting from my concentration, since I don't think the two will work well together. My main focus for the remainder of the season is that I would like to work with medias that I have yet to have the privilege of working with. My concentration focuses on exploring new ideas and adding new elements that I have yet dared to try on any of my past pieces.
