  3. 1. The artist used the principles and elements of design in many ways. She used color emphasis by making both the barn and grass green, but yet they still stand out and contrast with one another which is an attention grabbing factor. On the barn, you can tell by the line balance which wall is facing what direction very realistically due to the direction she moved her pastel to match this pattern. The texture contrast of this piece is also one of my favorite parts. The texture of the sky, trees, and grass are all very distinct and match to their real life textures and therefore contrast against each other to look just like a picture would. The artist used all the space effectively by adding detail to the background while keeping the barn in focus. I think shape unity is used in terms of the barn being proportional with the little barn and the correct shapes and sizes for the roof and wall were used. The color value was used because the colors are all dull and give off the vibe that their really is a cloudy sky. The pattern of the colors all match together to look like a realistic representation of the scene.

I think the most effectively used elements are texture contrast, color emphasis, and line balance, being that they are they first three elements that really stood out to me. I don't think inclusion of any more would improve the piece because she used the elements she focused on so effectively.

    2. This piece is non-figurative because it is a literal representation of a landscape, which is what it is supposed to be.

    3. I think the artist was trying to communicate the relationship between color values and how the same color can contrast with itself even in situations like this when you wouldn't expect it to. I don't have any questions because I feel like this piece makes sense from looking at it and speaks for itself. Since it isn't abstract their isn't as much room for interpretation in wondering all the different messages that could be communicated in the piece.

    4. I feel that Becky made a clear connection between the piece and the central idea of her concentration statement. She successfully uses color to bring across her point and depicts a landscape scene with a lot of detail and thought. The way both the grass and barn are green effects your perception of the scene and draws in your attention.

    5. In my opinion, the strengths of this piece are the different textures, color use, and how it is really realistic despite it being pastel which is harder to make realistic since it pastel is more soft and harder to define. I think the perception is accurately shown by the way she manipulated the colors to show the hill and distance of objects for example, which I think is hard to do in art.

    6. In my opinion, this piece is already strong. The only thing I can think of that could make it stronger is adding more detail and shading to the barn itself because I love the movement of the lines and shapes of the barn, but I would love to see more texture of the barn's roof and walls, to make it evident whether the barn in built out of wood or what not. I don't think this is necessary though but it would be a cool inclusion of detail to the piece.
