  2. 1. How did the artist use the elements and principles of design?

I think that Garrett used space movement. There is a type of movement in his piece, as there should be since that is his main concentration. The way that the font of the text is allows the viewer to feel like it is a screeching halt with the stop sign as the main focus. The color emphasis would be the color red. Red usually means stop or sort of a danger sign. It gave the piece more of an intense emotion. Its interesting that the pieces’ focus is movement, but contradicts itself with a large stop sign.

    2. Is this piece….

This piece is figurative with a realistic stop sign and graffiti surrounding it. Its intersesting because the text STOP is overlapping and is on a black brick wall which we may never see in life. A stop sign should never really be on a brick wall because its obvious that no one will continue as if they were at a four-way stop. This makes the piece even more interesting and makes me wonder why he chose to use a wall.

    3. Interpretation (your opinion): What do you think the artist was trying to communicate with this piece? What questions, if any, do you have about this piece?

I think that Garrett’s concentration of motion is interestingly used in this piece for many reasons. The quote is interesting to the viewer and makes them stop and think about it. I think that the motion in cooperated with a stop sign is very interesting because they are complete opposites.

    4. Read the artist’s concentration statement from the last post. Do you feel that a clear connection can be made between the piece and the central idea of the artist’s concentration statement?

Yes, I think that he was able to successfully portray the concentration he wrote about. He was able to include motion with just text and no literal movement with a person or object.

    5. In your opinion, what are the strengths of this piece?

I liked the choice of quote and where it was placed around the stop sign. The color for the words was also well thought-out. The red connected it all together and gave it a purpose and emotion. I thought that hand-writing the quote made it more realistic, and would look much better than if he had used stencils.

    6. In your opinion, what could make this a stronger piece?
