Concentration Statement Refinement

Revisit your original concentration statement. Determine if your direction/interests have changed. This is your final opportunity to refine and rework your concentration before the end of the year. Try to narrow the scope of your concentration as much as possible. Remember that your concentration is supposed to be a cohesive body of work investigating one specific theme or idea.
If your concentration statement will remain the same, please post the original statement.

  1. Our eyes focus naturally on what captures our attention in a photograph, drawing, and things we see around us everyday. My concentration in Honors Art this year will bring out what I see is the most important aspect in each of my pieces through a theme of 'Focus'. I hope to do this in a variety of ways. For example, I will vary technique by blurring out the less important aspects of an image, only fully developing one section of a piece, or zooming in on an object. I would like to attract attention to the details that are sometimes overlooked by onlookers. In some pieces I would like to expose the cultural background or emotion that a piece may represent. This concentration is not limited to any specific materials, as I would like to create a range of pieces using different media and techniques throughout the year.

  2. Some people believe we all view colors differently, and I want to work off of that notion. I want my pieces to draw in attention because of their colors and how I use color to represent the different aspects of my art. In nature the color spectrum is huge and allows my idea of differing color perception to open. My pieces will mainly explore how something takes on the colors of the objects around them and how the color isn’t pure when other colors are around to influence how our eyes perceive it.

  3. "Expectations" can influence anyone to portray something in a specific way. I want create pieces that challenges one's perception. I want to explore the "not so literal" interpretation of expectations. I want to do different things by using different subjects and experimenting with different materials in the process. I also want to have a personal connection to my artwork so I'm aiming to choose subjects (for my remaining) pieces that are meaningful to me.

  4. My concentration is vivid memories and while many think that contains just the good ones, I want to include bad or hard memories because I feel it it is those moments that build who I am, or anyone for that matter, as well as the good times. I want to use many mediums and methods to creates my pieces, such as acrylic paint, collage, etc., and I also hope to convey emotion and vividness through techniques involving color, line, and composition, to name a few. My main goal with this concentration is to have someone walk by and be impressed with not the artwork but the story it tells as a whole.

  5. The central idea of my concentration is insecurities. Each piece of my artwork for this topic will represent an insecurity and express that idea or meaning through using the elements of design, or it will show different situations where someone is burdened with an insecurity, presenting the insecurity directly or symbolically. Since our lives become controlled by our insecurities at times, my goal is to create artwork that everyone can relate to and connect with on a personal level.
